FU Berlin is a leading research institution. It has 16 academic departments and central institutes offering over 150 degree programs across a wide range of subjects. About 17% of its students come from abroad.

This subject-specific exchange partner is suitable for students in the following subject area(s) only:  

  • English literature/language
  • German
  • History, classics and archaeology (suitable for joint honours History and Politics students)
  • Political science & international relations

German students are expected to undertake teaching entirely in German at this institution. 

English Literature/Language students should be able to take a full course load in English at this institution. 

Politics/International Relations students should be able to take a full course load in English at this institution.

History students should be able to take a full course load in English at this institution, but only within the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies. The History Department at FU Berlin only offers courses in German. Students who wish to take courses outside of the JFK Institute will need to meet minimum language requirements for German:

For Classics and Archaeology, teaching is primarily available in German. Students may not be able to take a full course load in English at this institution so must meet minimum language requirements.

Either students can organize their own private accommodation (such as student-shared apartments, so-called WG or Wohngemeinschaft) or use the university's accommodation service offered by the ERG GmbH.

The accommodation service offers a variety of accommodation options, including dorms, shared flats and fully furnished single apartments. All housing options are available from the beginning of September/October or March/April onwards and cost about 450 to 850 Euros per month.
