Academy of Fine Art Munich

The Academy of Fine Art in Munich was initially established as a drawing school in 1770 by Elector Maximilian III Joseph and is one of the oldest institutions of fine art in Germany. Today, the Academy sees itself as an experimental laboratory and a breeding ground for solutions beyond all convention.

Its classes are complemented by 20 excellently-equipped study workshops and a large library as well as seminars and lectures in art studies, philosophy and didactics.

Teaching is offered in both German and English, with the language of instruction depending on the professor and course. Professors may choose to teach in English, particularly where students face language barriers. For German-taught courses, alternative arrangements such as peer translation or individual support in English may also be available.

Students should be able to complete a full course load in English, but should confirm course availability and language of instruction with the relevant department before enrolling.
