Universität Freiburg

Universität Freiburg was founded in 1457 and is one of the oldest and most renowned universities in Germany. It is located at the foothills of the Black Forest in Freiburg im Breisgau, a traditional university town.

With eleven faculties and around 240 degree programmes, it covers a broad interdisciplinary spectrum with high-quality research and teaching.

German students are expected to study entirely in German at this institution. 

Physics teaching is available in both English and German. Students may not be able to take a full course load in English at this institution so must meet minimum language requirements.

All exchange students get a room in the student dormitory, if requested. Once requested:

  • students services "Studierendenwerk" will contact you in August (for winter term) or in January (for summer term) by email, to clarify the details, so please check your email inbox regularly. 
  • you will receive the contract during the arrival days in International Office. You will receive the keys to your room from the care taker of your student residence. 
  • rooms in the student dormitory are only rented for the whole semester or a whole year. 

Winter semester: 1 October until 31 March
Summer semester: 1 April until 30 September)
