Global crisis response

The Global Community Team supports the University’s response to global crises by coordinating information, connecting services and helping staff and students access the support they need.

Our role

The University of Edinburgh has 45,000 students, around half are from outside the UK and over 17,000 staff with just over a third who are international. When a global crisis occurs, it is rarely abstract – it is likely to be affecting people in our community directly. The Global Community team coordinates the University’s response when a global situation affects our community – making sure that when it matters, the right support is accessible and the response is joined up.

What we do

Not every global situation will require a University response but when one does we work across teams to assess the impact, coordinate action and make sure people can access the right support.

Working across the University

Global crisis response is a collaborative effort. The Global Community team works closely with colleagues across Colleges, Schools and professional services – including Student Experience, EUSA, the Chaplaincy and senior leaders – to ensure a collective and coordinated response.

Accessing support

Information about current support and guidance is available on the University of Edinburgh’s Sanctuary website.

If you are affected by a global crisis and are not sure where to start, you can contact the Global Community Team on globalcommunity@ed.ac.uk.

We will help connect you with the right support.
