Professor Eric Appau Asante is an Associate Professor of Educational Innovations at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, and a leading authority in digital learning transformation across higher education in Africa. He is the Founding Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre, where he spearheaded the development of one of the region’s most advanced institutional e-learning ecosystems, including the establishment of over 20 state-of-the-art digital learning studios and the university’s Virtual Classroom (VClass) platform. Professor Asante currently serves as the Coordinator for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Courses at KNUST, where he leads a university-wide initiative to scale AI literacy and responsible AI competencies across all disciplines. Under his leadership, KNUST has successfully designed and deployed institution-wide, self-paced AI courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, positioning the university as a continental leader in responsible AI education. A certified Quality Matters (QM) Coordinator and facilitator, Professor Asante brings deep expertise in instructional design, online pedagogy, and quality assurance in digital education. He has collaborated with global partners, including Arizona State University, on faculty development and digital learning innovation, and has supported large-scale capacity-building initiatives that bridge education, technology, and workforce readiness. His thought leadership extends to applied innovation and community impact. He is the Project Host for the Mastercard Foundation-supported eHAPPY Project, which equips young people with technology-driven agricultural skills, and has led multiple initiatives focused on digital inclusion, youth empowerment, and scalable learning systems in resource-constrained contexts.Professor Asante holds a PhD in African Art and Culture (KNUST), a Master of Education in Educational Leadership (Curriculum Design) from the University of Education, Winneba, Diploma in General Education, Winneba and a Graduate Certificate in Instructional Design and Performance Improvement from Arizona State University. He also holds a Certificate in Online Pedagogy from the University of Amsterdam and is a SEDA-recognised professional in developing blended learning. He is the author of “Maximizing E-Learning in a Constrained Ecosystem” and his most recent book, “Best Practices in Online Pedagogy,” both of which provide practical, research-informed strategies for designing, implementing, and sustaining high-quality digital learning in diverse and resource-constrained environments.
